Fit, Black, and Educated, Inc. (FBE) is pleased to announce our 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration Virtual 5K taking place from June 19th, 2024 to August 17th, 2024! With over 200 participants nationwide, this 5K commemorates Juneteenth and promotes healthy, active living.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, the date when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and issued General Order No. 3, which informed the people of Texas that all enslaved people were now free. This announcement came nearly two and half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. General Granger's reading of effectively marked the end of chattel slavery in the United States. Join us from wherever you are to celebrate a new beginning and reflect on this historic day.
This is a time to reflect on Black Americans’ collective resiliency when faced with racial disparities and cultivate knowledge and appreciation of Black American culture.
